Our full-time Education Studies (with placement) MA is a 15-month taught programme with a placement that caters for the needs of those who wish to gain an MA degree through intensive full-time study. Students have a choice of modules that total 200 credits. The course has been designed to appeal to both home and international students.听

Placements
You will be able to undertake your placement at either a nursery, primary, secondary or special education school or within the University听
where you will observe classroom teaching, management, curricula and assessment strategies used by teachers and have first-hand experience of the UK education system. Placements will also allow you to reflect on your studies and observe how the theory is put into practice, which will help your further development and professional competence.
Students must ensure they bring all documentation for a criminal record check to the School of Education and Human Development at the start of the course. Students cannot be placed at school without the required criminal record check.

Progression
It is possible for suitable MA students to move up to the Doctorate in Education Studies (EdD) programme after completing the five taught modules (140 credits) of the MA in Education Studies and demonstrating a high level of study at merit or above. Such students would not have to do an MA dissertation and would also need to complete a sixth module, 鈥橳hesis Proposal鈥.
Transfer of credit into the EdD is evaluated case by case, by the EdD Course Director, as the EdD is a research degree.
After completing all the six modules, candidates for the EdD programme may be able to apply for studentships (please see the EdD programme for more information).
Application
Applications are received all year round, but international applicants are strongly recommended to apply early. The deadline for the September start is 31st July.
Applications received after that date will be considered for start in the next academic year.
The deadline for applications by home students is 31st August each year.
Course Content
What will you study on this course?
All students take the following compulsory modules:
- Research methods (30 credits)听
- Placement module (20 credits)听
- Dissertation (60 credits)听
Students choose an additional 90 credits from the following optional modules:
- Curriculum Development (30 credits)
- Educational Leadership and Management (30 credits)
- Assessment in Education. There will also be choices from modules running on the Part Time MA Education听Studies course e.g. Behaviour Management and on MA Childhood and Youth Studies e.g. Sociology of Childhood and Youth. These choices may change from year to year. ( 30 credits).
The course is taught through the medium of English and students are welcome to submit assignments in English or Welsh.
The course will include some on-line teaching and time for independent study.
Some teaching may take place at the weekend and late afternoon.

Entry Requirements
A 2(ii) honours degree is required and relevant work experience as a teacher/lecturer or teaching assistant is preferred.听
From 2021, applicants will need to have a minimum of two weeks experience in a school or educational setting. This could be as a volunteer, intern or student.
Applicants should include details of this in the C.V. they include with their application.
Applicants who are not native-English speakers should have: IELTS 6.5 with no element below 6.0.
Students with lower scores may undertake a pre-sessional English course at ELCOS the University鈥檚 English Language Centre.
